Solar Hot Dog Cooker

 Extra Credit Problem

Previous Winners

You can earn up to 15 extra credit points by constructing a solar Hot Dog cooker.

Here are the guidelines you must follow to earn your 15 points:

You must do this project by yourself.  No group work will be accepted.
The heating section of cooker must be in the shape of a parabola in a three dimensional form.
You have to word process a one page summary (one inch margins, double spaced, size 12 font) including the exact equation you used to design your cooker (the cooker must fit this equation) including the vertex and focus.  Tell me what equation you used, and why you chose that equation.  Tell me the vertex, and focus for that equation, and a few points on the equation.  After that tell me about how you built your solar hot dog cooker and why you chose that particular size and shape.
Don't spend more than $20.00 in the construction of your cooker.
The cooker must rely solely on the reflective power of the sun from the parabolic shape to cook the Hot Dog without solar electric cells or panels, electricity (batteries not included), electromechanical parts, chemicals or flammable/combustible materials. No magnifying glasses are allowed.
The device should not be larger than 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet (L x W x H).
The device should not weigh more than 30 pounds.
You must make the solar hot dog cooker  yourself.
